Terms of use

  1. Definitions:
    1. Imaging Plaza: A collaborative platform between the EPFL Center for Imaging ("EPFL") and the Swiss Data Science Center ("SDSC") to collect, curate, and validate metadata for imaging resources.
    2. Imaging Plaza Team: The team responsible for managing and maintaining Imaging Plaza, comprised of representatives from EPFL and SDSC.
  2. Acceptance of Terms and Community Standards:

By accessing or using Imaging Plaza, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and uphold the principles of open science, collaboration, and responsible data sharing. Imaging Plaza reserves the right to modify these terms at any time. We encourage community feedback and participation in shaping Imaging Plaza's development.

  3. Metadata Usage, Ownership, and Attribution:

Imaging Plaza collects, curates, validates, and indexes metadata for imaging resources. You retain ownership of the underlying code and data associated with your metadata. By submitting metadata, you grant Imaging Plaza a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, and distribute the metadata for the purposes of the platform. Proper attribution of the original source of code and data is required when using metadata from Imaging Plaza.

  4. Metadata Ownership, Curation, and Updates:

Contributors are responsible for maintaining the accuracy and relevance of their metadata entries. Imaging Plaza may reach out to contributors to offer assistance or suggest improvements if inconsistencies or errors are detected. However, primary responsibility for updates and corrections lies with the contributors, particularly maintainers of the referenced software.

Imaging Plaza reserves the right to curate and validate all metadata submissions to ensure the quality and consistency of the platform. This includes verifying information, checking for compliance with metadata standards, and assessing the FAIRness of the associated resources.

Imaging Plaza will not modify existing metadata entries except in the following case:

    1. Software No Longer Maintained: If there is a public statement of discontinuation of the software or if software inconsistencies were detected or reported and attempts to contact the maintainers through official channels (e.g., email, website contact forms) have been unsuccessful or have received no response within a reasonable timeframe (e.g., 30 days).

By submitting metadata, you acknowledge Imaging Plaza's curation role and agree to these terms of metadata management.

  5. FAIR Principles and Evaluation:

Imaging Plaza promotes the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles for research software. Imaging Plaza assigns FAIR level indices to assess the compliance of software with these principles. You are encouraged to improve the FAIRness of your resources based on our evaluation.

  6. User Contributions and Community Guidelines:

You are welcome to contribute to Imaging Plaza by submitting metadata, providing feedback, and participating in community discussions. We expect all users to adhere to respectful and constructive communication practices. Harmful or misleading metadata submissions will be removed.

  7. Software Usage:

Software accessible through Imaging Plaza is subject to its own licensing terms. You are responsible for complying with those terms when using the software. EPFL and SDSC do not warrant the accuracy or functionality of third-party software.

  8. Disclaimer of Liability:

Imaging Plaza is provided "as is" without any warranties or guarantees. Neither EPFL nor SDSC are liable for any damages arising from the use of metadata obtained from Imaging Plaza. We do not endorse the accuracy or quality of any code or data linked from our metadata.

  9. Governing Law:

These Terms of Use are governed by Swiss law.
